Hello Cthulu: Shoggoth 1 by ensoul Hello Cthulu: Shoggoth 1 by ensoul
More Lovecraft-inspired oddity. My two (mild) phobias combined: spiders and jellyfish. Blerghh.

I'm only casually acquainted with Lovecraft, but weren't Shoggoth giant, hairy amoeba like entities dotted with bloated eyes?

Technically they could be shaped into anything (which is why I made mine look like a spider lol) to be tools for their masters.
I think the ones seen in the stories are big tentacled blobs with lots of eyes like you say

Again, Lovecraft novice.
Bloodbourne brought in a lot of interest to the genre of weird fiction, I am no exception.
I was just curious about that, in my mind, apparent discrepancy.
Lovecraft certainly had an interesting imagination, creatures that could essentially be fashioned like clay to fit a desired purpose.

I really liked how Bloodbourne incorporated that too.. maybe the best use of Lovecraft lore in a game I've seen tbh. If you found it interesting, would be worth it to read all the stories.
yes, it's a cool concept. :D Originally I was going to do a whole series of different-looking shoggoths in different environments, but didn't have the time

I dug up a Barnes and Noble Collection of his works before buying it, if just to get better acquainted with the source material beforehand and skimmed a few stories from the table of contents for what might sound interesting.
I mostly wound up reading some of his lesser known short stories, which didn't touch on cosmic horror as much, but the themes were all there.
I surprised myself with how much I actually enjoyed "What the Moon Brings" it's such a simple premise, but one I think very well conveyed his paranoia. How little more than a change in lighting can turn the whole world unfamiliar, ugly, alien, terrifying.
I, personally, would be very interested in seeing how in seeing 1001 variations on a Shoggoth. X)

Wow, this is really cool! I love how twisted and creepy yet realistic the creature looks, it's so easy to imagine it gliding on the water.

Thanks for sharing, ensoul. You really captured the strange scariness that is a Lovecraftian monster.

Labradors are the fluffiest, friendliest most ridiculously cute dogs though. How can you be afraid of labs? And it is ONLY Labradors. She's fine with other dogs

An original depiction of the good ol' Shoggy much in contrast with the popular "meaty biomass" version. This one is much more scary and intimidating. Good work!
